Sienna Advances Again

Ninth seeded Siena beat eigth seeded Ohio State 74-72 in double overtime this evening advancing to the second round for the second year in a row.  Last year, the Saints defeated Vanderbilt to advance to the second round before losing to Villanova 84-72.  The Saints will now face Louisville on Sunday.  Poughkeepsie Native and former Edge athlete Edwin Ubiles is a starter for the Siena and was key to their win tonight.  Siena coach Fran McCaffery was obviously very pleased with the win.  “It’s an amazing accomplishment,” he said referring to his teams second straight first round win.

Junior point guard Ronald Moore led his team to the victory but it wasn’t easy.  “I was struggling all night, but my teammates had confidence in me said so I kept shoting it,” Moore said.  Moore is 10th in the nation and sixth among NCAA Tournament guards in assist-to-turnover ratio.  But it was his 3 point shot with three seconds left in the first overtime that sent the game into the second overtime.  And if that wasn’t enough, Moore hit another 3 pointer with 12 seconds left in the second overtime that would put Siena up 74-72.  Ohio State’s Evan Turner missed a last second shot to tie it up.

Congratulations to Edwin and the rest of the Saints
