Star Edge Athlete to Kick Instead of Shoot

Chris Metz, a member of our 16u East squad,  has been selected for the Hudson Valley Scholastic Soccer team that will compete in the Empire State Games this July.  He is the only sophomore selected to the team of 16 players from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Ulster counties.  The Games take place in Buffalo, NY from July 21st through July 25th.

A two year starter on defense for the Our Lady of Lourdes High School Varsity, Chris along with his Empire State teammates will represent the Hudson Valley.    “This is certainly a great accomplishment for Chris,” said Jim Santoro, the Director of Edge Athletics.  Chris played for Santoro two years ago for Edge Athletics and played JV basketball at Lourdes as a sophomore this past season. Santoro isn’t surprised of his achievement.  “I knew he was a special kid as soon as he stepped foot on the basketball court,” Santoro said.  “He is focused, works incredibly hard at anything he does, and has a determination that is unmatched.  He is a key member of our basketball team, and I’m not at all surprised that he was selected to represent the Hudson Valley for soccer,”  he added.

Chris will forgo the AYBT East Coast National tournament in Shippinsburg, PA,  to participate in the Empire State games.  Both tournaments take place at the same time.  “His team will certainly miss him at Nationals, but we will all be routing for him as he is kicking  the ball instead of shooting it,” Santoro said.  His dad, George Metz, is sure to provide updates while Chris is in Buffalo.  Chris’s younger brother Ryan is a member of the Edge 13u West team that will also be participating in Nationals.

Let’s all give Chris a very big congratulations and wish him the best as one of our star athletes competes on a different playing field!
