Edge Athletics is pleased to announce the winners of the Dr. Yerry College Scholarship. The Winners, Michael Khan from Millbrook High School and Luke Horvath from Spackenkill High School, were selected from a pool of applicants by an independant selection committee. Khan is currently attending Western New England College, Horvath the University of Notredame. Khan hopes to play on the schools basketball team and will be trying out this week. “I am very pleased with the selection committees choice,” said Jim Santoro. “There were many athletes to choose from and I know how difficult it can be. All of the applicants were great candidates,” he added. The winners will both receive an award of $1000 that is intended to help offset the cost of books and other miscellaneous expenses during the athletes freshmen year.
The scholarship fund was first created in 1996 to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of Edge Athletics. Since the scholarships inception, Edge Athletics has awarded six athletes, not including Khan and Horvath. This year, the scholarship was renamed and dedicated to the late Dr. Roger Yerry, a prominent Hudson Valley physician who’s son Adam was a member of the first team called the River Rats. Dr. Yerry was an avid supporter of the Edge program and also served as team medical consultant. “There isn’t any other parent that I would rather have honored than Dr. Yerry,” Santoro said.
